Lookout Mountain, Rock City

Day Trip to Lookout Mountain – Rock City

I don’t know what it is about the autumn season, but I love a good fall road trip! I saw photos of the Rock City waterfall online about a year before and decided that as soon as it was the fall season again I would make a trip. The day trip to Lookout Mountain was such a nice trip!

Rock City – Lookout Mountain is actually located in Georgia and it’s only about a 3 hour drive from Birmingham, Alabama. There are a lot of other tourist attractions in the area, and most are actually located  in Tennessee since you’re pretty much right on the state border.

I went to Lookout Mountain in the middle of October, and I should have waited until later in November to truly experience the fall leaves. While there are a few fall trees and leaves, the trees aren’t as golden and ‘autumn-y’ as I would have liked, but the area was still breathtaking! There are plenty of views from the 7 states vantage point to Lovers Leap to admire the view. It really is spectacular.

The waterfall is man fed, so you don’t have to worry about whether or not it has rained recently. I didn’t know that there would be a trail, but it took me around 45 minutes to complete the entire loop. We did rush through the last part, Fairyland Caverns – the gnome part. I didn’t realize I didn’t like gnomes until I visited Rock City!

Like I mentioned before, there are a lot of other things to do and see in the area, so do your research before you head to Lookout Mountain. Plan your trip and see what else you can do in the area on their website: https://www.lookoutmountain.com

Cloudland Canyon State Park

I had also looked up some close by site-seeing places to visit if I had time after touring Lookout Mountain. Since I have already visited Ruby Falls, I decided to go to Cloudland Canyon State Park. This park is also in Georgia and is only about 10 miles from Lookout Mountain (however, it takes around 20 – 30 minutes to drive there because you have to drive slowly through the mountains). The photos online reminded me of the Blue Mountains! And they did not disappoint! Such pretty canyons and views.

My friend and I also hiked to a waterfall, but it was dried up because of the season. We heard they were good though, so if you go during the right season don’t miss out!

Turns out there’s a lot to do in the area besides the main tourist attractions. So if it’s your first time visiting the Rock City area, you won’t be short on places to explore! Let me know if you’ve been to Rock City before and what your favorite things to do in the area are!
